Site Conditions
Machine travels 14 mph (23 km/h). Distance of 1250 feet (230 metres). Average Ambient Temperature in the summer of 85°F (30°C) and 32°F (0°C) in the winter. Floors unpaved gravel yard. The storage racks had sharp steel edges that damage the tires when loading/unloading materials.
Tire Problem
Solid tires had mediocre tire hours/service life as solids would chunk out and be removed prior to tread wear out. Negative harsh ride caused operator fatigue. Freezing winter temperatures make for slippery hazardous conditions.
Trojan Solution
Installed Trojan HD Soft Core in Radial Tire.
Success / Outcome
Trojan Soft Core has achieved cost savings providing extended service life, allowing for full tread wear out and removal for retreading. The steel mill had an overall reduction in tire expenses when the Trojan Soft Core was reused. Operators enjoyed increased tractive effort resulting from Trojans air-cell flex giving the tire a full flat foot print. The air-like ride gave the operators a more comfortable work station.
